There have been numerous studies that clearly show that in certain kinds of pain and injuries, a chiropractor can do the same or a better job compared to doctors or drugs in bringing relief. However, may people still refuse to go to chiropractors because of the bad reputation that they seem to have. There seem to be many negative chiropractor myths that have been spread around that discourage people from visiting their local chiropractor. Today, we are here to break those myths and really encourage you to give chiropractors a try!
1. Spinal Adjustments are painful- Chiropractors are most well-known for their spinal adjustments, and of course, it follows that there is this myth that spinal adjustments hurt beyond comprehension. We have to admit that upon hearing about the procedure, we initially thought it would hurt too. Adjusting your back does not sound comfortable at all. We're so relieved when we were proven wrong by our chiropractor. Spinal adjustments are not painful at all! In fact, it's the opposite. Many patients experience instant relief after a chiropractor performs a spinal adjustment. However, spinal adjustments aren't for any patient. If the patient is experiencing severe bouts of back or neck pain, then he would be extremely uncomfortable if he were to try a spinal adjustment.
2. Chiropractors have no formal education; especially compared to doctors- Another unfair myth that has been widely spread is that supposedly chiropractors are not educated in the in craft, which means they do not know what they are doing. This is so far from the truth. Before a chiropractor gets his license to practice, he has to undergo rigorous education and training. A chiropractor is required to complete 4 years of regular college and another 4 years of Chiropractic College. In this time, chiropractors learn about anatomy, physiology, neurology, pathology and radiology. After a chiropractor graduates, he also to have an internship involving patients. Lastly, before they become certified practitioners, chiropractors have to pass the National and State Board examinations.
3. Chiropractic is not scientific- Again, this is grossly untrue. Chiropractors, in their mission to give their patients the safest and most effective remedies have to continue to conduct scientific studies. These studies are made in order to improve diagnostic methods, as well as treatments for patients. Look in any library and you will easily find documented scientific trials performed by chiropractors.
It's ok to believe in myths if they have some sort of evidence supporting them, but it pays to look at the case closely too. Chiropractic methods have been bringing relief to so many people in the world. If that isn't evidence enough that chiropractors can really help you with your pain, then we don't know what is!
